347 Stroker vs. 351w Engine.

There is ongoing debate which engine is a better choice. The objective here is to break down the Pros and Cons of each engine. In our experience we've had great luck with both engines.  Depending by the use and type of vehicle will determine which engine would be more beneficial.

347 STROKER -    (4.030 Bore x 3.40 Stroke)

Pros:

• Lightweight and Quick Revving
• Approx. 80lbs. lighter than the 351w.
• Improved internals over factory 302. (Forged Connecting Rods and Pistons)
• Same Dimensions as 302.  If already have a 302 existing Headers, brackets ect. will work.
• Approx. 2 inches less in Width and Height than 351w.
• An increase of 60-70lbs. extra Torque Potential over factory 302 engine ( when built properly)

CONS:

• Perceived to burn more oil.. (When using a high quality piston and ring this is not the case)
• 302 based motor not as rigid as the 351w.  (Generally speaking the 347 can handle 450+HP without any problems)  Engine by nature is high revving but not recommended to rev steadily over 6500 RPMs.
• Minimum Growth potential Horsepower. (More than enough performance for the typical street performance enthusiast.)

351w   -  (4.00 bore x 3.500 stroke)

Pros:

• Strong internals. Large Main Cap Bolts and Connecting Rod Bolts
• Thick webbing Block that's capable of stroking safely up to 427w.
• Taller Deck Hight with more Torque capacity
• Can be swapped in place of most 302 applications.
• Block Can easily handle 550+HP
• Cubic Inches!!  Stroker Combos - 393, 408w, 418w, 427w or more.

Cons:

• Approx. 2 inches wider and Taller than the 302.
• Approx. 80lbs. heavier than the 302.
• Some other mods to vehicle may be necessary for vehicles with originally a 302. ( Hood, Exhaust or Accessories)
