427W FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What  vehicles would this engine work best with ?

This is our biggest and baddest small block Ford engine, Early to later model Mustangs, Kit Cars, Hot Rods & Trucks to name a few. We'll match up the necessary components to your vehicles requirements. For Example a 1966 V8 Mustang will require a different oil pan, flywheel, harmonic balancer and Water Pump than a 1985 Ford V8 Mustang.  Your vehicle will need a heavier duty transmission, rear end and tires to perform at it's best.

What about idle quality and will I have enough vacuum to run my accessories ?

We would rate this engine to have an agressive idle than our some of our other 351 engine packages. Idle quality can be affected by a few things including whether you have a high Stall Speed Torque Converter attaching to your automatic Transmission. Vacuum will be OK for running accessories like Air conditioning, Power Steering and Power Brakes. The Hydraulic Roller cam has a large duration and lift but still considered "street friendly".

What other engine will this engine interchange with ?

A 289 302 or 351w will interchange very easily with this motor. Earlier applications like a 221 or 260 can work with some minor modifications. 4 and 6 cylinder conversions also a possibility. Speak to one of our sales / techs on this.

What octane gas does this engine require ?

This engines compression is approx. 10.5 to 1 so it can run very comfortably within 92-94 octane range.

What is the Redline that this engine be taken up to ?

This particular engine has capacity of handling higher RPMs than our other engines but we would suggest RPMs be kept to under 6000 RPMs.

What is the Power Range of the engine ?

2000 thru to 6500 RPMs  Delivering a very broad power band!

Will my stock Transmission work with this engine ?

Your best to go with a super duty Transmission able to withstand the whopping 500+lbs. of torque this motor throws at you. Whether it be a Standard Tremec TKO or a Heavy duty C4, C6 or AOD Automatic Transmission.

Will I need a higher Stall speed torque Converter to compliment this engine ?

This question applies to Automatic Transmissions only. A stepped up converter  will usually give you quicker acceleration off the line. The use of the vehicle has a lot to do with this too. Is it a grocery getter or Street / Strip application ?. Other factors like the weight of car or truck, gearing , tire size also come into play too. Speak to a Transmission expert on this.

Are Headers required and what diameter should be used ?

An engine performs much  like an air pump the more efficient the air and fuel is delivered  in and exits out the better and more responsive it will become. Headers could free up approx.15 Horses over stock Manifolds. A general idea on Header sizes would be 1" 3/4.

What size Radiator is recommended ?

The biggest one you can fit in. There's Aluminum Radiators out there that are small in size but do a phenomenal job of keeping things cool. Otherwise a 4 core radiator would do the trick.

What buy the 427w over your 408w or 418w? Is the 427w that much better?

Our 408w or 418w stroker motors will deliver more power than you'll be probably ever need and hold up extremely well for a street / strip vehicle. They have forged steel parts in them to withstand a lot of abuse. The 427w will develop 25-30 more Horsepower and torque than our 418w. This may not sound like a lot but what your paying for here is extra reinforced strength for the World Castings block. It's re-engineered to get more oil and withstand some pretty harsh conditions. This block doesn't need to be bored to the max in order to reach 427 either. A lot people relate to the 427 of yesteryear, so some will want to buy this engine just for bragging rights that they have a 427!  But make no mistake this motor will tear up some asphalt and perform on the track as well.

Why is the 427W Stroker engine more expensive than the 408w or 418w Stroker motors?

This was answered mostly in the last question. The simple answer to this is the parts are more expensive. We're dealing with a New World Castings block that requires more specialized parts. As stated our 408 or 418w stroker engines will satisfy your horsepower hunger but for you maniacs that are always wanting more than this is it!  This engine has potential for even more horsepower but we always want to maintain some street manners as well.
