347 Ford Stroker Engine

Bad situations can eventually become good opportunities. The point were trying to convey here is

through experience comes the ability to hear and see things that the untrained eye or ear wouldn't recognize.

There are many times that brand new parts from the box proved to be defective, whether it's not machined properly or there is just human error.

It's not enough to just put an engine on a test stand or Dyno, make a few pulls and expect everything to perform like it's supposed to.

We've made a list of  Symptoms and Solutions for the engines we've tested at our facility.  This is just a small sampling of what we've come up with over the years:

SYMPTOM
SOLUTION
Engine Experiencing Vibration from 1500-2000 RPM RANGE

Flywheel out of Balance from Factory. Replaced with New one. Engine smoothed out.
Valvetrain making excessive noise upon initial test run of engine

New Rockers had .020 thousands excessive clearance causing valvetrain play and noise. Replaced with different manufacturer.
Freeze Plug weeping coolant

Replaced Freeze plug and seated in place. Retested engine.
Grinding noise coming from Front of Water Pump Pulley

Water pump had a defective bearing. Replaced and engine had no noise.
 # 7 Cylinder would not adjust properly

Hydraulic Lifter was sticking in bore. Reamed lifter bore in block.  Clearance created.
Engine is breaking up throughout RPMs   Inspected coil and then Distributor.  Module determined to be faulty from MSD Ignition
Engine would start but would cut out soon after this.

Determined that the Alternator was not delivering 14.4 volts.  Changed and Replaced Alternator.

Top end noise under Valve Covers

Pulled the valve covers, one of the Rocker Arms were not adjusted properly.
While installing new Distributor the Gear was tight going in.

Instead of forcing it, inspected gear and had wrong gear installed causing an interference problem with Cam Gear.  This prevented an inevitable cam or Distributor gear failure.
Engine making a Ticking Noise. After further inspection it turn out to be a Defective Roller Lifter sticking in the Bore.   Disassembled the Intake and removed the defective Roller Lifter. Re-Tested engine.  Everything turned out perfect following this.
